UK May Request EU Probe Of P&G's Sara Lee Deal

Law360, New York (March 05, 2010, 1:05 PM ET) -- British competition regulators are mulling whether to refer Procter & Gamble Co.'s acquisition of Sara Lee Corp.'s air freshener unit to the European Commission for investigation.

The Office of Fair Trading published a notice on Friday expressing concern over possible negative effects the deal could have on competition within the U.K.

“[T]he OFT is considering whether the merger may affect trade between member states and may threaten to significantly affect competition within the territory of the U.K.,” the notice said.
