Basel II Capital Rules: Here We Go Again

Law360, New York (March 11, 2010, 2:19 PM EST) -- On Dec. 17, 2009, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (“Committee”) issued a Consultative Proposal to strengthen global capital regulations in order to foster a more resilient banking sector.

While the Consultative Proposal does not specify levels of required capital, the Committee is conducting a comprehensive impact assessment of its proposed capital and liquidity standards to determine what should be the appropriate amount of capital.
