Health Insurer Settles Suit Over Physician Directory

Law360, New York (December 20, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- UnitedHealthcare agreed Tuesday to reimburse hundreds of New Yorkers who were unfairly charged for out-of-network services due to errors on its physician directory.

As part of the settlement with the New York Attorney Generals Office, the UnitedHealth Group Inc. unit also agreed to fork over $20,000 in penalties, plus $25,000 for costs associated with the investigation. Additionally, the health insurance company must stop providing misleading information to its policyholders and make sure its doctor lists are accurate and updated every month.
