Ex-Swift Workers Seek To Curb Detentions

Law360, New York (December 20, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Attorneys for former employees at the Swift & Co. meatpacking facility in Cactus, Texas have asked a Texas federal judge for a temporary restraining order to protect workers from detention until they are able to receive legal and union representation.

The Cactus plant was among six facilities raided by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents last week following an illegal immigration undercover operation. Approximately 1,300 employees were arrested across six states, 300 of which were detained in Cactus.
