NY Legislators Target Controversial Gas Drilling Method

Law360, New York (March 09, 2010, 3:49 PM ET) -- New York state lawmakers have introduced a set of bills to regulate a controversial method of natural gas drilling known as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, which has been eyed by energy companies seeking to tap into the state's gas-rich layer of Marcellus shale.

The four bills, introduced Wednesday by Assemblyman Robert K. Sweeney, would require companies to disclose chemicals used in the fracking process, and would ban altogether some chemicals that have been shown to harm human health.
