Weight Watchers Sues Diet Companies Over Pop-Up Ads

Law360, New York (June 3, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- WeightWatchers has sued several competitors over trademark infringement for what the weight-loss giant calls unauthorized pop-up ads on its website.

The lawsuit is the latest in a string of actions against vendors of software that generate pop-up ads and the advertisers that buy pop-up ads on competitors’ websites.

Last month, L.L.Bean has filed lawsuits against four major retailers, including JC Penney and Nordstrom, that it says are using "pop-up" box advertising on L.L.Bean's web site, llbean.com.
