Starwood Hotels Worker Wins $3M On Retaliation Claim

Law360, New York (March 11, 2010, 5:20 PM EST) -- A federal jury has awarded $3 million to a baker who sued Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., finding that the company unlawfully retaliated against him by installing a secret camera in a smoke detector near his workstation after he complained of discrimination.

Ecuadorian immigrant Moises Mendez, who returned to work at the Westin Hotel in Times Sqaure on Thursday, was awarded $1 million in compensatory damages for emotional distress and pain and suffering, and $2 million in punitive damages by a jury in the U.S....
