Aetna Group Life Insurance Suit Stalls In 9th Circ.

Law360, New York (March 12, 2010, 1:41 PM EST) -- A federal appeals court has affirmed the dismissal of a class action that sought to recover premiums paid to Aetna Life Insurance Co. for group life insurance policies that allegedly did not exist.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit issued the ruling Wednesday, saying lead plaintiff Kia Weaver lacked standing to pursue the case because Aetna never denied her coverage. Aetna paid claims to others under the policies, the court noted.
