DNA Sequencing Rivals Head To Court

Law360, New York (January 1, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A unit of Applera Corp. has filed a lawsuit against DNA-sequencing machine rival Solexa Inc., alleging that its former chief patent counsel wrongfully took patents that belonged to it and assigned them to Solexa.

The suit, which was filed by Applied Biosystems Group on Dec. 26 in California Superior Court in the County of Santa Clara, alleges that Stephen C. Macevicz, the former chief patent counsel for Applied Biosystems, violated an employee invention agreement with his actions.
