Best Buy, Others Face Patent Suit Over Gift Cards

Law360, New York (March 18, 2010, 2:24 PM ET) -- A Texas patent-holding company has taken a swipe at a number of major retailers — including Best Buy Co. Inc. and The Home Depot Inc. — over a pair of gift card patents.

The complaint, filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas by Alexsam Inc., alleges that the retailers have infringed U.S. Patent Numbers 6,000,608 and 6,189,787, which cover electronic stored value cards.
