Law360, New York (May 25, 2010, 3:42 PM EDT) -- Major law firms are increasingly embracing competency models for their associates, both to speed their professional development and make them more marketable to clients, and experts say that trend shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Competency models, which have gained popularity in recent months among law firms, are different from traditional evaluation and pay structures in that they take into account several subjective areas of competency instead of, or in addition to, more traditional measures like billable hours.
