High Court Won't Hear Fraud Suit Against Nationwide

Law360, New York (March 22, 2010, 5:31 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Supreme Court has denied a petition for certiorari from plaintiffs in a putative class action against Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co., letting stand an appeals court's ruling that negligent misrepresentation claims carry the same heightened pleading requirements as fraud claims.

The high court on Monday offered no comment in support of its denial, which effectively kills claims from Delaware auto insurance policyholders accusing Nationwide of using misleading language to convince consumers their coverage extended further than it did.
