Private Equity Firms Face Lawsuit, Probes

Law360, New York (January 3, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Private equity firms may have had a record year in 2006, but at least 13 of the most prominent firms are now facing a proposed class action lawsuit over alleged antitrust and securities violations.

Launched in November, the closely followed suit claims the firms violated antitrust laws and conspired to fix deal prices.

Attorneys involved in that case are currently preparing for their first meeting before the judge, set for February 16, but the questions raised in the case, and the U.S. Department of Justice investigation...
