Indian Tribe's Sawmill Must Comply With OSHA: 7th Circ.

Law360, New York (March 25, 2010, 12:26 PM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has ruled that a sawmill run by the Menominee Indian tribe is subject to the Occupational Safety and Health Act, affirming a decision by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, ruled Wednesday that nothing in OSHA or in the 1856 treaty that created the Menominee reservation exempted the sawmill's owner, Menominee Tribal Enterprises, from the federal law.
