Recess Appointments Fill Employment, Trade Posts

Law360, New York (March 29, 2010, 1:16 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama has bypassed the Senate by issuing recess appointments for 15 nominees to government posts, including controversial union lawyer Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board and several key international trade positions.

Becker was the most contentious of the nominees the president appointed Saturday. Two days earlier, all 41 Republican senators sent a letter to Obama urging him not to issue a recess appointment for Becker, whose nomination was blocked 52-33 by the Senate on Feb. 9.
