Iowa Democrats Look To Boost Minimum Wage

Law360, New York (January 11, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- While the federal minimum wage hike may encounter hard times in the Senate, the Iowa state legislature is considering imposing its own $2.10 pay increase, designed to automatically climb along with inflation.

With their newly gained majority in the state government, the Democrats are hoping to push the measure forward as early as next week.

Iowa currently uses the national wage floor, set at $5.15 per hour. The federal House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a bill that would increase it to $7.25 by 2009, but...
