EU Adopts New Competition Rules For Online Selling

Law360, New York (April 20, 2010, 6:50 PM EDT) -- New antitrust rules adopted by the European Commission will allow brand owners to block online sales of their goods by distributors without brick-and-mortar outlets, and ease restrictions currently facing online companies.

The European Union's antitrust watchdog unveiled the rules Tuesday, saying the new regulatory framework would allow retailers to restrict sales to distributors with physical outlets and permit vertical agreements between manufacturers and distributors, provided neither has a market share in excess of 30 percent.
