Ill. OKs $8.5B Frontier-Verizon Deal Over Objection

Law360, New York (April 21, 2010, 5:11 PM EDT) -- The Illinois Commerce Commission has approved Frontier Communications Corp.’s proposed $8.5 billion acquisition of Verizon Communications Inc.'s local line business in 14 states, despite a judge's objection that the deal would likely lead to a drop in service quality.

In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Frontier said the commission unanimously approved the $8.5 billion deal. A formal written order has not yet been issued, according to the company.
