Ukraine To Rethink $22B VimpelCom-Kyivstar Merger

Law360, New York (April 22, 2010, 5:46 PM EDT) -- Hours after Russian cell phone operator OAO VimpelCom executed a $22 billion merger with Kyivstar, Ukraine’s antitrust regulator reportedly announced Thursday that it was reconsidering its approval of the deal at a competitor’s urging.

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine said that it would investigate claims by Astelit LLC that newly formed company VimpelCom Ltd. enjoyed an overwhelming market share and occupied too great a slice of the cell phone spectrum, the Wall Street Journal reported.
