Legislators Seek To Soup Up NHTSA Amid Car Recalls

Law360, New York (April 28, 2010, 5:12 PM EDT) -- Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., and Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., say they plan to introduce auto safety legislation in an attempt to strengthen the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and address problems highlighted by the recent spate of vehicle recalls.

Rockefeller, who chairs the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, said Tuesday that the Toyota Motor Corp. recalls in particular had revealed lapses in the safety monitoring system in the U.S.
