WellPoint Ends Rescission, Delays Rate Hikes

Law360, New York (April 28, 2010, 4:56 PM EDT) -- Bowing to pressure from federal regulators, WellPoint Inc. has said it will end its practice of dropping sick patients from health plans and has again delayed plans to hike premiums on members of its California subsidiary Anthem Blue Cross.

WellPoint said Tuesday it would terminate the practice known as rescission starting May 1, ahead of a federal ban in President Barack Obama's recently passed health care law that goes into effect Sept. 23. United Healthcare Group Inc., the parent company of UnitedHealthcare, quickly followed suit....
