Wi-LAN Sues Cisco Over Wireless Technology Patents

Law360, New York (June 23, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Canadian broadband wireless company Wi-LAN has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Cisco System over wireless router technology.

The suit claims Cisco is using Wi-LAN's technology without licensing it first in its IEEE standard 802.11a and 802.11g products. Specifically, Wi-LAN is targeting technology used in Cisco's Linksys and Aironet product lines.

The suit claims those Cisco products infringe Wi-LAN's Canadian patent number 2,064,975 and U.S. patents No. 5,282,222 and 5,555,268.

The lawsuit seeks compensation for the use of intellectual property as well as punitive damages....
