Law360, New York (April 30, 2010, 1:58 PM EDT) -- The European Commission warned European nations Friday that problems with double taxation may be inhibiting cross-border venture capital investment and urged the countries to adopt certain standards for investment fund tax classifications.

The report from the EC's Expert Group on Removing Tax Obstacles to Cross-Border Venture Capital Investments comes just days after the government opened an online public consultation on double taxation issues that arise when taxpayers operate across the internal borders of the 27-member bloc.
