Rambus, Qualcomm Shape EU Cooperation Guidelines

Law360, New York (May 5, 2010, 7:03 PM EDT) -- With the new horizontal cooperation guidelines it proposed Tuesday, the European Commission is trying to crack down on abuse of standards-setting bodies by patent holders now that its actions against Rambus Inc. and Qualcomm Inc. have yielded disappointing results, antitrust attorneys say.

“It's almost as if they're writing the remedies they would have wanted in the Rambus case,” said Ted Henneberry, a partner in Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP's London and Washington offices.
