Haiti Trade Bill Sails Through Senate, Heads To Obama

Law360, New York (May 7, 2010, 12:18 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Senate has passed a bill that gives increased trade preferences to Haiti, moving the legislation along to President Barack Obama for a signature.

The Senate passed the measure in a voice vote Thursday, a day after the U.S. House of Representatives approved it. The Haiti Economic Lift Program Act is geared toward hastening Haiti's economic recovery following a catastrophic earthquake earlier in 2010 by allowing more goods from its apparel industry to enter the U.S. duty-free.
