Chinese Internet Firewall Is WTO Issue, Kroes Says

Law360, New York (May 17, 2010, 4:41 PM EDT) -- The firewall that China uses to restrict online content is a barrier to international trade that should face scrutiny from the World Trade Organization, European Commission Vice President Neelie Kroes reportedly said Monday.

Kroes, speaking in Shanghai at the headquarters of Chinese YouTube LLC rival Tudou, suggested that the Chinese law forcing Internet companies to remove political or pornographic content the government finds objectionable thwarted trade by keeping Internet users from freely exchanging information, Reuters reported Monday.
