QBE Insurance Sanctioned In Coverage Spat With JSR

Law360, New York (May 18, 2010, 3:56 PM EDT) -- Citing QBE Insurance Corp. counsel Freeman Freeman & Smiley LLP's "egregious conduct" during depositions, a magistrate judge has leveled over $130,000 in sanctions against the insurer in a suit filed by tech company JSR Micro Inc. over a $2.5 million loss it allegedly suffered in 2009.

Magistrate Judge Elizabeth D. Laporte of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California signed off on an order Friday partially granting JSR's motion for sanctions, awarding the chemicals maker $130,212 instead of the $233,412 it sought....
