Massey CEO Defends Safety Record To Senators

Law360, New York (May 20, 2010, 6:34 PM EDT) -- Massey Energy Co.'s top executive defended the company's safety record at a U.S. Senate hearing Thursday on mine safety in the wake of an April explosion that killed 29 workers at the Massey-owned Upper Big Branch mine in West Virginia.

“Massey does not place profits over safety,” Massey chairman and CEO Don L. Blankenship told the Senate subcommittee on labor, health and human services, and education. “We never have, and we never will.”
