Ex-Bear Stearns Exec Gets 2 Years In Galleon Case

Law360, New York (May 21, 2010, 6:20 PM EDT) -- Backed by dozens of friends and family members in federal court Friday, former Bear Stearns Asset Management executive Mark Kurland was sentenced to 27 months in prison for his role in the Galleon Group LLC insider trading scheme.

In a strongly worded order, Judge Victor Marrero of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York characterized Kurland's crime as an “egregious example of insider trading” and said the millionaire's record of philanthropy and other good deeds did not earn him a noncustodial sentence....
