BP Oil Spill Suit Can Advance Despite MDL Bid: Judge

Law360, New York (May 26, 2010, 7:03 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has said there is no good reason to delay an oil spill action against BP PLC while the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation decides whether to consolidate the more than 130 suits stemming from the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion.

Judge William H. Steele denied BP's motion to stay the litigation Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama, finding that, at the very least, preliminary litigation steps should proceed.
