DOJ Seeks Stay Of Alba Kickbacks Suit Against Sojitz

Law360, New York (May 27, 2010, 6:11 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice has jumped into a suit filed by Bahrain's state-owned Aluminum Bahrain BSC alleging that Japanese commodities trader Sojitz Corp. paid illegal kickbacks to secure improper aluminum discounts, asking the court to stay discovery pending resolution of its own parallel criminal probe.

The DOJ filed a motion Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, asking the court to halt the case until the department can complete its criminal investigation and any resulting prosecution against the defendants....
