EU Opens In-Depth Probe Into Unilever-Sara Lee Deal

Law360, New York (June 1, 2010, 2:26 PM EDT) -- European Union regulators have confirmed they are pursuing an investigation into Unilever PLC's €1.3 billion ($1.9 billion) acquisition of Sara Lee Corp.'s personal body care business.

The European Commission's initial market investigation indicates potential competition concerns on several product markets, including deodorants, skin cleansing and fabric care products — though the decision to open an in-depth inquiry does not prejudge the final result of the investigation, the EC said Monday.
