DOJ Backs Bill Reversing Gross V. FBL Ruling

Law360, New York (June 10, 2010, 6:52 PM EDT) -- A senior U.S. Department of Justice attorney told a U.S. House of Representatives panel Thursday that legislation reversing the Supreme Court's ruling in Gross v. FBL Financial Services Inc. would restore key tools to employees fighting age discrimination.

Jocelyn Samuels, senior counselor to the DOJ's assistant attorney general for civil rights, told a House Judiciary Committee subcommittee that pending legislation would help promote unity in the law and avoid a series of inconsistent rulings stemming from the high court's June 2009 ruling.
