RICO Claims Tossed In Scruggs Contract Dispute

Law360, New York (June 9, 2010, 12:15 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has tossed racketeering claims brought against Richard “Dickie” Scruggs by two attorneys at Scruggs Millette Bozeman & Dent PA alleging the jailed litigator and his firm diverted settlement funds from tobacco litigation to bribe judges instead of paying them to employees as their contracts dictated.

Judge Keith Starrett of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi ruled Monday that the fact pattern presented in the case did not warrant the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act's special remedies.
