Sierra Club Fights To Nix Va. Permit For Mountain Mine

Law360, New York (June 10, 2010, 4:28 PM EDT) -- The Sierra Club and another environmental group are protesting an A&G Coal Corp. mine in Virginia, claiming the state's Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy approved a permit for the 1,300-acre site that fails to comply with federal and state surface mining laws.

Southern Appalachian Mountain Stewards and the Sierra Club sent letters to state officials Tuesday, launching an official objection to the permit and demanding a formal public hearing to contest the mine.
