Law360, New York (June 17, 2010, 12:24 PM ET) -- Deputy Secretary of Labor Seth Harris on Thursday strongly backed a bill sponsored by Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, that would crack down on businesses that misclassify their employees as independent contractors.
Harris made his remarks at a hearing by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, which is debating the Employee Misclassification Prevention Act, S. 3254.
Harris said EMPA's passage will be critical to the U.S. Department of Labor's recently stepped-up effort to go after misclassification of employees.
