WTO, US Action Against China Ill-Advised: Panel

Law360, New York (June 16, 2010, 3:21 PM EDT) -- A House Ways and Means Committee panel on Wednesday cautioned lawmakers against making laws or appealing to the World Trade Organization to deal with China's controversial policies on intellectual property, currency devaluation and government procurement.

In a hearing on the competitive threat of China's state-fueled capitalism, several China experts questioned the effectiveness of using Congress and the WTO to settle trade disputes with China and recommended instead that the U.S. increase bilateral pressure and strengthen trade alliances with other Asian countries.
