Gulf Drilling To Continue While US Appeals Nixed Ban

Law360, New York (June 24, 2010, 3:00 PM EDT) -- A federal judge who nixed the U.S. government’s six-month moratorium on deepwater oil and gas drilling has refused to suspend his ruling while the government seeks an appeal.

Judge Martin Feldman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana on Thursday rejected the U.S.' bid to put the controversial ruling on hold, underscoring his belief that BP PLC’s ongoing oil spill does not justify halting 33 deepwater drilling operations currently under way in the Gulf of Mexico.
