Security Guards Lose Bid For Meal Break Class

Law360, New York (June 29, 2010, 5:43 PM EDT) -- A California appeals court has refused to grant class certification to about 4,000 security guards of Boyd & Associates Inc. for claims they were denied meal and rest breaks, and an attorney for the plaintiffs said she planned to appeal the ruling to the state's top court.

The Court of Appeal of the State of California for the Fourth Appellate District issued the ruling Thursday. The plaintiffs had alleged Boyd did not provide uninterrupted, off-duty, 30-minute meal periods or off-duty rest breaks for its security guards....
