Rival Software Companies Welcome Judge's Order

Law360, New York (February 1, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Two rival semiconductor design software companies both declared victory on Wednesday, after a judge ruled that Synopsys Inc. and International Business Machines Corp. co-own two of the three patents in dispute.

Since two employees from Synopsys and IBM worked together to invent the patented technology while the companies shared a joint development agreement, the two companies share ownership, U.S. District Judge Maxine Chesney said in her order.

Synopsys, meanwhile, has sole ownership of a third patent in question.
