Spotlight: M&A Trends In Canada

Law360, New York (July 21, 2010, 11:42 AM EDT) -- Despite signs of stabilization in the market, Canadian mergers and acquisitions activity was moderate in Q1 of 2010, with 246 announced transactions totaling CDN $19.7 billion in value.

The largest transactions in the quarter were the CDN $1.5 billion merger of Quadra Mining Inc. and FNX Mining Company Inc. and Fairfax Financial Holding Limited’s CDN $1.5 billion acquisition of Zenith National Insurance Corp. The volume of cross-border transactions has remained strong, with seven of the top 10 deals in Q1 of 2010 involving a foreign entity....
