Former Cable Tech Hits Utili-Comm With Overtime Suit

Law360, New York (July 6, 2010, 5:08 PM EDT) -- A former cable technician has hit Utili-Comm South Inc. with a putative class action claiming the company misclassifies its repair and installation workers as independent contractors in order to avoid paying overtime wages.

The complaint, lodged Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, alleges the cable installation company wrongly classifies its technicians as independent contractors, denying them overtime wages and violating the Fair Labor Standards Act.
