Green Group Fights Wash. Hydropower Plant Project

Law360, New York (July 8, 2010, 5:04 PM EDT) -- An environmental group has challenged a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permit allowing renovations at a Puget Sound Energy Inc. hydropower plant, claiming regulators took shortcuts on public review requirements to greenlight a project that could have significant flood-control impacts.

The Corps can use the shortcut procedures on hydroelectric projects having less than 5,000 kilowatts, but it must complete a more thorough review on projects that involve facilities producing more than 54,000 kilowatts, such as Puget Sound Energy's Snoqualmie Falls Hydroelectric Facility in Washington state, the...
