FDA Serves Up Nationwide Rules On Menu Labels

Law360, New York (July 8, 2010, 11:56 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has proposed new rules requiring chain restaurants and vending machine operators nationwide to post the calorie content of their items at the point of purchase, in hope that customers will use the new information to make healthier eating choices.

The proposed rules, published in the Federal Register on Wednesday, are being drafted by the FDA pursuant to Section 4205 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23.
