Irika To Pay $4M For Discharge Of Toxic Sludge

Law360, New York (July 09, 2010, 5:54 PM ET) -- Greek shipping management company Irika Shipping SA has agreed to pay a $4 million criminal penalty for concealing from authorities that it dumped thousands of gallons of toxic waste oil in the Port of Baltimore.

The company, which is registered in Panama, pled guilty to felony obstruction of justice and violations of the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships on Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
