Trial Loss Leaves Bayer 0 For 3 In Modified Rice MDL

Law360, New York (July 14, 2010, 7:06 PM EDT) -- A federal jury awarded a Louisiana long-grain rice farmer about $500,000 Wednesday, finding Bayer CropScience AG liable for contaminating the U.S rice supply with genetically modified rice and handing the company its third trial loss in multidistrict litigation, the plaintiff's attorney said.

The jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri granted the award after about six hours of deliberation and a three-week trial, said Don Downing, the lead trial lawyer for the plaintiff. Bayer was ordered to pay about $3.5 million...
