DOJ Demands More Info On $3.1B Mirant, RRI Tie-Up

Law360, New York (July 16, 2010, 11:12 AM EDT) -- Mirant Corp. and RRI Energy Inc. have revealed that the U.S. Department of Justice wants more information on their planned $3.1 billion merger, which would create one of the largest independent power producers in the U.S.

The DOJ issued a second request Wednesday, the companies said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday.

The request is “a common part of the regulatory approval process under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act,” Mirant and RRI said.
