Bill To Boost Mine Safety Sent To House Floor

Law360, New York (July 21, 2010, 2:44 PM EDT) -- The House Committee on Education and Labor on Wednesday approved a sweeping overhaul of mine safety and health regulations, fending off Republicans' attempts to delay the bill and weaken its tough mine operator liability standards.

H.R. 5663, the Robert C. Byrd Miner Safety and Health Act, sponsored by committee chairman George Miller, D-Calif., was passed with a party-line vote of 30-17.
