New Bill Would Toughen Cosmetics Safety Rules

Law360, New York (July 21, 2010, 5:24 PM EDT) -- A new Democrat-sponsored bill before the U.S. House of Representatives would overhaul the cosmetics safety regime and force cosmetics makers to submit to new requirements similar to those imposed on drugmakers.

Reps. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., Ed Markey, D-Mass., and Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., on Tuesday introduced H.R. 5786, the Safe Cosmetics Act of 2010, which would give the U.S. Food and Drug Administration far more power to limit the ingredients in personal care products.
