Pearson Inks $497M Deal With Brazil's SEB

Law360, New York (July 22, 2010, 2:08 PM EDT) -- U.K. publisher Pearson PLC said Thursday that it would buy the school learning systems division of one of Brazil's biggest education companies, Sistema Educacional Brasileiro SA, for 888 million Brazilian reais ($497 million) in cash.

The deal is expected to more than double Pearson's operations in the largest educational market in Latin America.

“Given the size and growth prospects of its education sector, Brazil has been a focus for Pearson for some time,” said John Fallon, head of Pearson's international education unit.
